The Eagles are signing quarterback Joe Milton off the Cowboys practice squad and putting him on their active roster, Jordan Schultz reported, citing sources. Jalen Hurts is out indefinitely with a blood clot. NFL Trade Rumors described it as a superficial clot. Pro Football Talk and Yahoo Sports framed the move as Philadelphia bringing in another quarterback from a division rival.
The depth chart explains the urgency. Per NFL Trade Rumors, Tanner McKee and Cole Payton were the only quarterbacks left on the 53-man roster with Hurts out. Payton has appeared in one game this season without a pass attempt. McKee's most recent passing line in our data is from 2025: 24 of 43 for 274 yards over four games. Andy Dalton is also on the Eagles' roster. NFL Trade Rumors said he was thought to be an option, but the summary cuts off before saying how that played out. He has one attempt this season and no completions.
Milton is a young passer with a thin résumé. In 2025 he went 15 of 24 for 183 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions over four games. He also had 5 carries for 50 yards. He appeared in three preseason games for Dallas this August. Yahoo Sports' summary said the signing points to what Hurts' return timeline might look like. That is an inference, not reporting. None of the feeds we have gives a timetable or a target date, and "indefinitely" is the only description of his status.
The Eagles need the help. They are 2-3, second in the NFC East, and have lost three straight: 27-7 at Chicago, 24-20 to the Rams, and 19-17 at Jacksonville last Sunday. Dallas is also 2-3 and sits third in the division. The Cowboys lose a practice-squad arm to a rival that shares their division.
