Jayden Daniels has said the failure to stop the clock at the end of overtime against the Giants was his fault. "Ultimately, it's on me," he said, per Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio. Florio wrote that Daniels and coach Dan Quinn "continue to take the blame" for not stopping the clock before a potential game-winning field goal.

CBS Sports' Jordan Dajani reported that Daniels defended Quinn on Thursday and took full responsibility for the clock running out in field goal range. The headline quote there was "It was a failure." ESPN has a separate detail that CBS doesn't: Daniels spoke to his Commanders teammates, blamed himself again, and vowed "it'll never happen again." The feed summaries don't say what was said in the huddle or on the sideline, or what play call was involved. Only the quarterback's and coach's accounts of accepting blame are available.

The cost is on the scoreboard. The game ended 27-27 on Sunday, Oct. 11, a tie that leaves Washington at 1-3 and fourth in the NFC East. A made field goal would have given them a win. They had beaten Seattle 33-31 on Sept. 27 and then lost 30-13 to Indianapolis, so the tie follows an uneven stretch.

Daniels's own game was productive on the ground. He ran nine times for 103 yards and two touchdowns against New York, with a long of 38. He also went 17 of 25 for 199 yards and no touchdowns, and he was sacked five times for 23 yards. Over three games this season he has completed 46 of 76 passes (60.5%) for 459 yards, 3 touchdowns, no interceptions and six sacks, at 6.0 yards per attempt. He has also rushed 21 times for 203 yards. Five of those six sacks came in the Giants game.

Washington's next game is at San Francisco on Monday, Oct. 19. The division is also unsettled. CBS Sports' Carter Bahns wrote that Tanner McKee gets his biggest opportunity yet with Jalen Hurts sidelined, as the Eagles try to end a three-game skid and stay in the NFC East race. Philadelphia is 2-3 and second in the division, after losses at Chicago, to the Rams and at Jacksonville. It hosts Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 18. McKee's only data in our archive is from 2025: 24 of 43 for 274 yards over four games.
