The Eagles will not trade Saquon Barkley before the NFL's in-season trade deadline on Nov. 10. That is the word from Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport, as relayed by NFL Trade Rumors, and ESPN carried the same news, citing sources who spoke to NFL Network. ESPN says the decision ends speculation that the running back could be moved. CBS Sports' Brad Crawford wrote that teams have been "poking around" on the former first-round pick, and that the Eagles have sent a clear message about his future in Philadelphia.
The sources differ in what they stress. NFL Trade Rumors says the Eagles are 2-5 and could still be active at the deadline, with teams inquiring about several pieces including Barkley. It adds that Garafolo and Rapoport report Philadelphia isn't interested in selling him off. The feed summaries we have don't say why the Eagles chose this, and we won't guess. They also don't name any interested team or any offer.
The interest is easy to understand from the record. Philadelphia is 2-5, third in the NFC East, and has lost five in a row. Its run differential of minus 48 is among the worst in the league. The last three losses were 19-17 at Jacksonville on Oct. 11, 25-14 against Carolina on Oct. 18, and 38-21 against Dallas on Oct. 26. The Eagles are 2.5 games behind first-place New York in the division.
Barkley's numbers this season don't show a back who was getting a heavy workload. He has 43 carries for 244 yards, 5.7 yards a carry, and one touchdown in five games played, and he has also caught six passes for 17 yards. The 43 carries are fewer than the 280 he had across 16 games in 2025, when he ran for 1,140 yards. He had 15 carries in each of the season-opening game against Washington (83 yards, with a long of 42) and the Sept. 28 game at Chicago (82 yards). He had two carries against the Rams, four at Tennessee and seven against Dallas, when he ran for 62 yards and a score. His longest run of the season is that 42-yarder against Washington, and he has one fumble.
Philadelphia now plays that same Washington team, at the Commanders today, Nov. 1. Washington is 1-4 and has lost its last game. The Eagles have nine days after that game before the deadline. Barkley is staying through that window, according to the reports, but nothing we have covers what happens after Nov. 10.
