The Golden Knights beat the Penguins 6-2 at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night. They scored twice in the first 4:02 and led 3-0 after one period. Rasmus Andersson opened the scoring 1:06 into the game, per Pensburgh's recap, which says Vegas had its defensemen jumping into the play. The AP described the game as a romp and noted that Vegas is 8-2 for the third time in franchise history.
Mark Stone had a goal and two assists, according to the AP and Sportsnet. Sportsnet also highlighted Trevor Connelly, who had two points. Our box score shows that he scored once and added an assist, and he has three goals and five points in eight games this season. Vegas had six different goal scorers: Andersson, Stone, Connelly, Brett Howden, Noah Hanifin and Shea Theodore. Two of them were defensemen, and Hanifin and Theodore are the other two blueliners besides Andersson on that list. Jack Eichel and Mitch Marner each had two assists.
Pittsburgh made a goaltending change, with Sergei Murashov in for this game. Pensburgh's pregame note said the skaters and groupings were otherwise the same as the night before. Murashov stopped 14 of 19 shots and was charged with five goals, a .737 save percentage. He is 0-2 this season with three starts. Adin Hill stopped 22 of 24 for Vegas.
The shot totals were close, 24 for Pittsburgh and 19 for Vegas. Pittsburgh also scored on its only power play, and so did Vegas. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin scored the Penguins' goals. The Penguins finished the game minus-3 for Rickard Rakell and Erik Karlsson, and Vegas outhit them 27-10.
The loss was Pittsburgh's third in a row. They lost 5-3 at Chicago on Tuesday and 5-2 at Colorado on Friday, and they are 3-5, sixth in the Metropolitan Division. They have allowed 16 goals over those three games. Vegas has won three straight, including 6-2 over Calgary on Thursday and 5-2 at Nashville on Tuesday. They lead the Pacific Division.
Pittsburgh plays at Utah on Monday and will have to decide who starts in goal. Vegas is at home against Tampa Bay on Tuesday.
