Jauan Jennings reportedly ended a trade that would have sent him back to the 49ers. Jay Glazer reported that San Francisco and the Vikings had worked out the terms. The deal depended on Jennings getting on a video call with coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch and approving it. Per NFL Trade Rumors, which summarized Glazer's report, Jennings instead indicated he preferred to stay in Minnesota. The r/nfl post of the Glazer report says the same thing, that Jennings said he wanted to stay.

The outlets differ in how much they add. CBS Sports' Jordan Dajani describes it as Jennings choosing the undefeated Vikings over a reunion with Shanahan and Brock Purdy. Yahoo Sports' summary says only that the Vikings had a trade in place with the Niners. The feeds we have don't give a compensation package, a date for the call, or any reason from Jennings. They also don't say whether the Vikings pushed for the deal. We won't guess at his motives.

The Minnesota side of the decision is easier to see in the numbers. Jennings has 4 catches for 43 yards on 8 targets in five games this season, with a long of 20 and no touchdowns. Dajani's note that he has caught just four passes matches our figures. His best game came against Indianapolis on Oct. 25, with 2 catches for 34 yards. He had 1 catch against Miami, 1 at Tampa Bay, and none in the Week 1 game against Green Bay or at New Orleans, where he was targeted once. Last year he had 55 catches for 643 yards and nine touchdowns in 15 games, and in 2024 he had 77 catches for 975 yards with San Francisco.

The Vikings are 6-0 and lead the NFC North with a six-game winning streak. Their recent wins have been tight: 16-10 over Indianapolis, 23-13 at New Orleans and 15-10 over Miami. Those scores are low for a team that hasn't lost, so extra receiving depth could matter to them. The sources don't say whether that played a part.

San Francisco is 6-1 and leads the NFC West, but it lost 29-20 at Atlanta on Oct. 25. Purdy has completed 146 of 211 passes (69.2%) for 1,748 yards, 8.3 per attempt, in seven games. Whatever the motive for the Jennings trade attempt, the Niners were not short of production at quarterback. Reporting that the club tried to bring Jennings back at all says something about how it sees him.

Both clubs have games coming up. San Francisco hosts Las Vegas on Sunday, Nov. 8. Minnesota's next scheduled game in our data is against Buffalo on Monday, Nov. 9. Today's Vikings game at Detroit is live and scoreless in our feed. Jennings remains a Viking for now, and nothing in the reporting says the 49ers will try again.
