The Jets have ruled out running back Breece Hall (quadriceps) and wide receiver Adonai Mitchell (finger) for Week 6 at the Patriots. Pro Football Talk and Yahoo Sports both say New York will be without three offensive starters for its first divisional game of the season. The summaries we have name only Hall and Mitchell. Yahoo's headline says both "remain out."
NFL Trade Rumors' Tony Camino has the longest list. He reports that head coach Aaron Glenn also ruled out offensive lineman Dylan Parham and linebacker Joseph Ossai. Parham is the only other offensive name in the reporting, so he may be the third offensive starter, but the summaries don't say so. Ossai has played three games this season, with nine tackles (five solo) and no sacks.
There is some good news at receiver. ESPN and Yahoo report that rookie Omar Cooper Jr. (ankle) will play. NFL Trade Rumors adds that Kenyon Sadiq will play too, along with Cooper. Sadiq has appeared in all five Jets games.
Hall's absence matters because he has been the lead back. He has played three games this year, with 51 carries for 163 yards (3.2 per carry) and one touchdown. He added 10 catches for 102 yards. His last game was the Sept. 27 loss at Detroit, when he had 13 carries for 32 yards. He did not play in the Jets' last two games, a 23-12 loss at Chicago and a 17-12 win over Cleveland. The Jets don't appear to have changed anything for Sunday: Yahoo's "remain out" describes both Hall and Mitchell.
Mitchell last played Sept. 20 against Green Bay. He had six catches for 63 yards on a team-high 12 targets in that game. He also had three catches for 60 yards in the opener at Tennessee, so he has missed the last three games.
The Jets are 2-3 and third in the AFC East, with one win in a row after beating the Browns. New England is 3-2 and second in the division, with two straight wins. The Patriots beat Buffalo 29-26 on Oct. 4 and Las Vegas 45-17 on Oct. 11, after a 35-6 loss at Jacksonville. The Jets will try to hold up on offense without Hall and Mitchell when they play at New England on Sunday, Oct. 18.
