The Mariners announced Monday that left-hander Jhonathan Díaz went unclaimed on waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma, per MLB Trade Rumors. Díaz was selected to the 40-man roster late last week before being designated for assignment. Because he has been outrighted previously, Díaz has the option to reject the assignment and elect free agency instead.
On the field, Monday's slate features several marquee matchups. The Phillies visit the Mariners with Philadelphia looking to extend its winning streak to 10 games, according to Yahoo Sports' prediction. The Cubs continue their western swing in Phoenix against the Diamondbacks, per Yahoo Sports and Bleed Cubbie Blue. Per Bleed Cubbie Blue, the Cubs hold the postseason tiebreaker over the Diamondbacks for a potential Wild Card Series matchup after sweeping them in Chicago in May and would clinch it with a single win in this series.
