Connor McDavid extended his NHL-record season-opening assist streak to 14 games by setting up Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' second goal, and the Edmonton Oilers opened their road trip with a 4-0 win over the New York Islanders on Saturday, per the AP. The AP says Nugent-Hopkins scored on a power play in the third period, which gave McDavid his league-best 29th assist. Sportsnet's video recap adds that Tristan Jarry stopped all 18 shots he faced.

The sources differ on how the goals fell. Deadspin has Nugent-Hopkins opening and closing a three-goal second-period flurry. The AP puts his second goal on a third-period power play. Our box score gives Edmonton three goals in the second and one in the third, which fits the AP's account of a late power-play goal. It also credits Nugent-Hopkins with two goals and a team-high four shot attempts that missed the net. Because the AP has the late goal as his second, the Deadspin line that he closed the second-period scoring doesn't match it.

Our tables count McDavid's streak slightly differently from the AP. They show 13 games played and 28 assists, along with 8 goals and 36 points, with a +17 rating. The AP's 14 games and 29 assists is one game and one assist higher, which would fit if the streak includes the Sept. 29 game against Vancouver. His game log has an assist in every game listed, including 1 against the Islanders. In that game he played 23:20, with 7:42 on the power play, and had three shots on goal.

Yahoo's headline says the Islanders took six penalties. Our box score lists seven total penalties and 33 penalty minutes for New York, including 15 for Emil Heineman and 10 for Scott Mayfield. Edmonton had six power-play chances and scored once. The Oilers outshot the Islanders 24-18. Ilya Sorokin stopped 20 of 24 shots in the home net.

The Oilers are 10-2 and lead the Pacific Division, with two straight wins since a 4-3 home loss to Detroit on Oct. 26. They beat Calgary 4-0 on Wednesday. The Islanders are 7-5 and fourth in the Metropolitan Division, with their losing streak at one game. Before this game they had won 4-3 at Nashville and 4-3 at Minnesota.

Edmonton plays again Sunday, Nov. 1, at the New York Rangers, and McDavid will try to push the streak to 15 games there. The Islanders host Carolina on Thursday, Nov. 5.
