The Pistons beat the Nets 110-94 on Friday night in the NBA Cup opener for both clubs. Cade Cunningham led all scorers with 20 points, and Duncan Robinson added 17, per ESPN and Yahoo Sports. Ron Holland II scored 18 off the bench, a season high according to Deadspin. Our box score lists him as Ronald Holland II, and Sportsnet uses the same first name.
The game turned in the third quarter. Deadspin credited Holland with 12 of his 18 points in that period. The line score shows Detroit outscoring Brooklyn 36-17 in the quarter. The Pistons led by as many as 30. Brooklyn won the fourth quarter 28-18, but by then the game was decided.
Turnovers decided it. The Nets gave the ball away 24 times, and Detroit scored 25 points off those miscues. Detroit turned over 12 times. Detroit also had 27 fast-break points to Brooklyn's 11 and outscored the Nets 48-36 in the paint. That happened even though the Nets won the rebounding battle 50-41 and blocked 10 shots to Detroit's 3. Neither team shot well. Detroit hit 42% from the field and 12 of 41 from three. Brooklyn hit 40% and 11 of 37. Julius Randle led the Nets with 15 points on 4-of-13 shooting and had five of the turnovers. Moritz Wagner added 16.
Yahoo Sports described the night as a step back. It said the Nets, "coming off their best effort of the season," produced their worst offensive showing of the year. That fits the recent results. Brooklyn lost 125-124 at Boston on Tuesday, then managed 94 against Detroit. They have lost five straight to open the season. Per Yahoo Sports, they are now the East's final winless team. They are also winless in Cup play.

He had 17 points on 5-of-11 shooting and went 5 of 5 from the line in 26 minutes. He also had three steals. Cunningham, who came in at 45.9% from the field, shot 6 of 15. He made up for it by going 7 of 7 at the line, though he also had four turnovers.
Detroit is 4-1 and leads the Central, and has won two straight after a 111-97 loss at New York on Tuesday. The Pistons followed that with a 97-89 win over Charlotte on Wednesday. They play at Charlotte on Monday, Nov. 2.
