The Red Sox entered the matchup ranked third in the AL East at 64-55, while the Blue Jays sat fifth at 58-63, per ESPN. After what Yahoo Sports and Over The Monster both characterized as a stretch of strong play earlier in the season, Boston has suddenly reversed course. Over The Monster's Matt Gross suggested the team's "magic carpet ride" into playoff contention appears to be fading, though he noted the season is not yet decided.
