Red Sox radio play-by-play announcer Will Flemming apologized after comments he made during a weekend series between Boston and New York drew sharp rebukes from the Yankees. According to reporting, Flemming became irate when Jazz Chisholm Jr. stole bases in the eighth inning of a game the Yankees were leading 7-1, with Flemming's remarks implying the Red Sox should throw at the opposing player.

Several Yankees players responded publicly to the broadcast booth comments. Aaron Judge said Flemming "needs to stay out of that and not be telling people to throw at players and injure players," adding that "that's not what this game's about." Carlos Rodón criticized Flemming for focusing on the stolen bases rather than the Red Sox's performance, saying "it's stupid to talk about because you're getting beat. Pitch better."

Chisholm Jr. took a more dismissive approach, telling reporters he didn't know who Flemming was before the controversy and indicated he wouldn't remember him after. ESPN reported that players called Flemming "unprofessional" and questioned why he would suggest throwing at an opposing player. Flemming subsequently apologized, saying he "crossed a line" with his criticism.
