Cam Schlittler reached 200 career strikeouts while pitching the Yankees to a 1-0 victory over the Red Sox on Friday in the opener of a four-game AL East series. Schlittler struck out eight through 5⅔ shutout innings, though Deadspin reported he also walked five batters during his appearance.
Paul Goldschmidt provided the game's only run with a solo home run. The Yankees' defense proved equally crucial in the tight contest: left fielder Cody Bellinger threw out the potential tying run at home plate to end the seventh inning. Deadspin noted the Yankees turned a pair of outfield double plays in the victory.
