49ers coach Kyle Shanahan expects 49ers fans to take over the crowd at Thursday's season opener against the Rams in Melbourne, according to multiple outlets. Shanahan has been critical of the Rams' decision to host a home game in Australia, viewing it as an attempt to escape yet another San Francisco fan takeover at SoFi Stadium. "The NFL let them off the hook," Shanahan said, per reporting, suggesting he believes the 49ers will have a home-crowd advantage even in Australia.
Shanahan also addressed the time zone confusion of playing Friday in Australia while it's Thursday in America. "I feel like I'm in the future," he said, per Pro Football Talk. "I call today Tuesday. No, wait, sorry, I call today Wednesday."
Aaron Donald will play in the game after coming out of retirement for the Rams. Yahoo Sports also reported that the Rams expect both wide receiver Puka Nacua and tackle Alaric Jackson to play despite off-field incidents involving both players during the offseason.
