Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback and receiver Travis Hunter had an interception and a receiving touchdown in Sunday's 34-31 loss to the Houston Texans in London. CBS Sports' Garrett Podell called it history and asked whether the breakout has arrived. He wrote that Hunter is "hitting his stride with his utilization in 2026". Yahoo Sports said he "demonstrated his full potential" in the loss. SB Nation's Mark Schofield opened by recalling that general manager James Gladstone moved to the top of the 2025 NFL Draft to take the Heisman Trophy winner. Gladstone believed Hunter could contribute on both sides of the ball. The feed excerpt of Schofield's piece cuts off before he reaches the game.
The box score from Wembley gives the detail the headlines leave out. Hunter caught all four of his targets for 59 yards and the touchdown, with a long of 26. On defense he had three tackles, one of them solo, and a pass defensed alongside the interception, which went for no return yards. The Jaguars' offense was the busier side, with 68 plays to Houston's 59. Houston still outgained them 426 yards to 412, and the Texans averaged 7.2 yards per play to Jacksonville's 6.1. Both teams threw one interception.
The offensive output is what stands out against his earlier numbers. Through Jacksonville's first five games he had two catches for 17 yards on two targets and no touchdowns. He also had one carry for three yards. Counting Sunday, his receiving line for 2026 is six catches for 76 yards and a score. Defensively he now has 22 tackles and two interceptions across six games, with the first interception coming against New England on Sept. 27. His 2025 receiving line was 28 catches for 298 yards and a touchdown in seven games. The sources don't say whether the four targets reflect a planned change in how he is used. Podell's "utilization" wording points that way, but it is his reading, not something the club has stated.
The result still cost Jacksonville a game. The Jaguars are 4-2 and still lead the AFC South, but they have lost for the first time in three games. Before Sunday they had beaten Philadelphia 19-17 and won 22-17 at Cincinnati. Houston is 2-4 and third in the division, but has won two straight after a 26-3 win at Tennessee. Kicker Kaiser Fairbairn's 49-yard field goal was the last play of the game.
Jacksonville's next game is Nov. 1 against the Indianapolis Colts. Whether Hunter gets the same four-target role there will show if Sunday was a one-off or a shift in how the Jaguars use him.
