The Warriors finished their preseason 4-2 on Friday night with a 128-118 win over the Trail Blazers at Chase Center. Golden State's Brady Klopfer, writing for Golden State Of Mind, called it a dress rehearsal before the regular season begins on Wednesday. He wrote that the game got closer once the rotational players were out of it. Yahoo Sports ran the same headline with the line "Bring on the season." ESPN's piece is a highlights package, and its feed text gave no detail.
The box score in our archive supports Klopfer's account of the margin. Golden State's largest lead was 25 and Portland's was 11. The Warriors led for 85 percent of the game, and the lead changed hands once. They scored 35 in the first quarter and 38 in the third. Portland scored 33 in the third and 27 in the fourth. It was the Warriors' third win in a row. The game was the first of two at Chase Center in that run's final week.
Stephen Curry scored 20 in 26 minutes on 7-of-19 shooting, with 3-of-11 from three. Yaxel Lendeborg had 17 and Brandin Podziemski 17. Al Horford scored 15 on 5-of-8 from three in 15 minutes, and Georges Niang added 13. Draymond Green had 7 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds and 3 steals in 24 minutes, and Golden State outscored Portland by 18 with him on the floor. As a team Golden State shot 18-of-44 from three to Portland's 14-of-40. It had 29 assists to 20 and 10 steals to 4.
Portland's starters had the rougher night. Damian Lillard scored 23, 13 of them at the line, where he went 13-of-13. Ja Morant had 19 on 8-of-10 shooting. Scoot Henderson led the reserves with 17 off the bench. Donovan Clingan had 11 rebounds but shot 2-of-7 and was a minus-19. The Blazers still out-rebounded Golden State 43-39 and had 48 points in the paint.
Portland is 3-1 and second in the Northwest, and this was its first loss of the preseason. Before it, the Blazers beat Sacramento 110-98 on Tuesday and London 119-66 on Monday. Golden State, first in the Pacific, also beat the Lakers 101-89 on Tuesday and Sacramento 111-106 on October 10.
Both clubs play again Wednesday, October 21. The Warriors go to Los Angeles to face the Lakers, and the Blazers host Phoenix.
