Nebraska quarterback Anthony Colandrea has signed a deal to return to the Cornhuskers in 2027 for his final year of college eligibility. His agent told ESPN that. Yahoo Sports described the deal as "reportedly" done and said he will stay put for his last season. CBS Sports' Brad Crawford framed it as a re-signing and a commitment that came after Matt Rhule called out SEC poachers. The CBS summary says Rhule and the Huskers kept one of their top players before a busy portal cycle. The feeds we have don't give Rhule's exact words or say which SEC programs he meant. We also have no contract terms, so those are unreported.

Yahoo says Colandrea has led Nebraska to a 5-2 start and that he previously started at Virginia and UNLV. Our logs show what that has looked like. Through seven games he has completed 137 of 219 passes (62.6%) for 1,568 yards, 14 touchdowns and four interceptions. He has also run 68 times for 334 yards and four scores. His best passing game was 275 yards and three touchdowns against Ohio, and his best rushing game was 108 yards on 10 carries against Maryland. He has fumbled three times this season and lost none.

The recent games are less comfortable. Nebraska has lost two straight, 20-17 to Indiana and 17-14 at Oregon, both by three points or fewer. In those games Colandrea threw for 262 and 164 yards with no touchdown passes against Indiana and one against Oregon. He threw one interception in each game. The Huskers are 2-2 in the Big Ten and ninth in the conference table. Locking up the quarterback for next year doesn't change that standing, but it does settle the position for 2027.

Virginia, his previous Power Four stop, is 4-4 and 12th in the ACC. It has lost two in a row, the latest a 51-7 loss at Wake Forest on Saturday. Nothing in the reporting ties that to Colandrea's decision.

The next test for Nebraska is Saturday's home game against Washington. It is a chance to end the skid with the quarterback's future already settled. The reporting gives no timeline for anything further, such as a formal announcement from the program. Crawford's piece points to the portal cycle as the next pressure point for Rhule's roster.
