Roope Hintz scored in the fourth round of the shootout, and the Dallas Stars beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 on Wednesday night at Ball Arena. The AP's Pat Graham reported that Hintz sent a wrist shot past Scott Wedgewood. The AP also noted that the Avalanche had two early goals disallowed. The summaries we have don't say how those goals were ruled out, so we can't say more than that.

Our box score shows regulation and overtime ended 2-2. Arttu Hyry and Miro Heiskanen scored for Dallas, and Hyry's goal was the Stars' one shorthanded goal of the night. Gabriel Landeskog and Brock Nelson scored for Colorado. Colorado outshot Dallas 27-22 and had four power-play chances to Dallas's two without scoring on any. Wedgewood stopped 20 of 22 shots, and Casey DeSmith stopped 25 of 27 for Dallas. Heiskanen played 30:03.

Hintz was held off the scoresheet in regulation. He took 26 shifts and 18:05, had one shot on goal and lost the faceoff count 9 to 5. The shootout goal gave him his first point in the shootout, though it isn't a regular-season stat. His season line stands at 6 games, 2 goals, 2 assists, 4 points, a +3 rating and 5 penalty minutes.

The two teams played on consecutive nights. Colorado won the first game 3-2 at Dallas on Tuesday, so the series finished 1-1 with both games decided by a goal. Yahoo's recap framed it from the Colorado side: the Avalanche took three of four points on the back-to-back. Colorado is 4-2 and third in the Central, with a streak of OT1. Dallas is 3-3 and sixth, and the win gives it a W1 streak. That follows a 2-1 loss at Pittsburgh on Saturday and Tuesday's loss in Dallas.

Colorado has little time to recover. It hosts Pittsburgh on Friday, after losing 6-3 to Toronto on Oct. 10 at home. Dallas goes to Chicago on Saturday, Oct. 17.
