Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton has a strained left hamstring and will miss time, ESPN's Shams Charania reported Wednesday. ESPN.com's Jamal Collier carried the story. No timeline exists yet. Hoops Rumors, summarizing the ESPN reporting, says Pacers team doctors are still evaluating the injury, so the length of the absence is unknown.
The injury comes just after Haliburton returned from a long layoff. Yahoo Sports and CBS Sports both note he missed all of last season with a ruptured Achilles tendon. CBS describes him as back on the shelf "after only four games." Our box scores show three regular-season games, at New Orleans, Brooklyn and Milwaukee. The count may include a preseason game. None of the summaries we have says whether the strain is related to the Achilles. They also don't say when or how the hamstring was hurt.
He had played well before the injury. Across those three games he scored 23, 24 and 22 points and had 12, 10 and 9 assists, which is 69 points and 31 assists in total. He shot 8-of-15, 8-of-13 and 8-of-17, and made 10 of 23 threes. His minutes were manageable at 34, 31 and 35. That is a little above his 18.6 points and 9.2 assists per game in 2025, the last season we have for him before this one. He played 73 games that year.
The Pacers are 2-1 and second in the Central, but they have lost their last game. They won 123-120 at New Orleans on Oct. 21 and 136-109 at Brooklyn on Oct. 25. Haliburton was a +29 in the Brooklyn win. They then lost 110-102 at Milwaukee on Oct. 26, a game in which he scored 22 points and was a -6.
Indiana's next game is tonight at home against Philadelphia. After that the Pacers play at Miami on Oct. 30. Charania's report doesn't say whether Haliburton will miss either game. The timeline depends on the team's evaluation. Yahoo's Dan Devine and others place the news in a wider run of injuries to stars at the start of the season.
