Jaylen Brown's representatives say a report that he demanded a trade from the Boston Celtics is false. Yahoo Sports, citing ESPN, reported that they told ESPN the claim is "10000% a lie." CBS Sports' Sam Quinn wrote the same denial as "10,000% a lie" and attributed it to Brown's PR team.
The claim came from Celtics broadcaster Brian Scalabrine. CBS Sports reported that he said Monday that Brown requested a trade out of Boston. The feed summaries don't say when the alleged request was made or what Scalabrine's source was. They also don't say whether Brown or the Celtics have commented beyond the representatives' statement. We won't guess at either. CBS is the only outlet that gives the date of Scalabrine's comments. Yahoo's summary covers only the denial.
CelticsBlog's Sam LaFrance weighed in under the headline "The Jaylen Brown situation is getting icky." The excerpt we have opens with a comparison to a television series and doesn't reach his argument, so we can't say what he concludes.
Our data shows Brown now plays for the 76ers, and CBS calls him "the 76ers star." He has started all four of Philadelphia's games this season, averaging 36.8 minutes. He is shooting 7.8-of-18.3 from the field (42.5%) and 2.0-of-4.8 from three. Philadelphia is 3-1 and first in the Atlantic. It beat Cleveland 114-106 on Oct. 22 and Milwaukee 127-116 on Oct. 24, then lost 106-93 to Detroit on Sunday.
The Celtics are 1-1 and second in the division. They beat Chicago 134-99 on Monday, the day Scalabrine spoke. Before that they lost 121-113 at Detroit on Oct. 20 and won 125-120 at Philadelphia on Oct. 16. Boston plays Brooklyn tonight in BKN at BOS.
Brown's next game is Wednesday, when the Sixers visit Indiana in PHI at IND. He will likely be asked about the report. Philadelphia then hosts New York on Oct. 30.
