Lamar Jackson will miss a second consecutive game with a sprained left ankle. Ravens head coach Jesse Minter has ruled him out for Week 6 at Cleveland, per Jamison Hensley, as reported by NFL Trade Rumors. Tyler Huntley will start in his place for the second straight week. Minter also ruled out tight end Matt Hibner (hand) and center Cam Jurgens (concussion).
The reports differ on how firm this was. Pro Football Talk and Yahoo Sports, running the same copy, said it "looks like" Jackson would miss the game after he sat out Friday's practice. SB Nation's Mark Schofield said he was "likely" out and noted he wasn't available for the media portion of practice. The NFL Trade Rumors item is the only one with the announcement itself. It also carries the injury's origin: Jackson hurt the ankle in the Ravens' win over the Tennessee Titans on October 4, and Ian Rapoport reported last week that it was a sprain.
Our box scores show how that game unfolded. Huntley came on against the Titans and went 8 of 9 for 63 yards in the 24-18 win. Last Sunday he started at Atlanta and went 24 of 32 for 201 yards and two touchdowns, with no interceptions and a 111.6 passer rating. He also ran for a score. He was sacked three times for 16 yards. Baltimore won 30-23. Across both games he is 32 of 41 for 264 yards, and the offense has not stalled with him in charge.
One caution on the injury list. The reports name Jurgens as the center, but our database lists Cam Jurgens with the Philadelphia Eagles, with no Ravens games on record. We can't reconcile that from the reporting, so treat the Jurgens detail as unconfirmed until Baltimore's own report clarifies it.
The Ravens lead the AFC North at 4-1 and have won three straight, including a 34-31 win at Dallas on September 27. The win over Tennessee and the one at Atlanta both came without a fully healthy Jackson, which matters for how much the Browns can count on a drop-off.
The Browns are 3-2 and fourth in the division after a 17-12 loss at the Jets on October 11. Before that they beat Pittsburgh 27-24 on October 1 and Carolina 21-18 on September 27. All three of their wins and both of their losses were decided by seven points or fewer. Baltimore visits Cleveland on Sunday, October 18. The reports give no timeline for Jackson's return beyond this week.
