Portland Trail Blazers guard Ja Morant will miss at least four weeks with a Grade 2 strain of his left hamstring. Per Hoops Rumors, the team announced the diagnosis on Friday after imaging, and said he was hurt Thursday in his first game against the Grizzlies, his former team. ESPN and Deadspin tie the injury to that game, a loss. Yahoo Sports and Sportsnet both frame the timeline as "at least a month."

The reporting gives a minimum and no return date. None of the six outlets we have says whether Morant will be re-evaluated at a set point or what the recovery path looks like, so "four weeks" is a floor rather than a schedule.

Our box score of the 124-103 loss shows a quiet night for a player on the way out. Morant played 23 minutes and scored 14 points on 6-of-14 shooting, with 3 assists and 2 rebounds. Portland was outscored by 21 and he was a minus-7. The reporting does not say when in the game the injury happened, and our box score doesn't either.

The loss interrupted a good start for the Trail Blazers, who are 2-1 and second in the Northwest. Before it they beat Phoenix 124-83 on Oct. 21 and won 136-129 at the Lakers on Tuesday. Yahoo Sports called the Portland offense "one of the best stories of the early season," and Morant was part of it. Across three regular-season games he averaged 26.7 minutes and shot 58.8 percent from the field, going 6.7-of-11.3 per game, with 1.3 threes made on 3.0 attempts. His best night was the Lakers win, when he made 9 of 13 shots for 23 points.

The Grizzlies are 4-0 and lead the Southwest, with Thursday's win extending their streak to four. They play Sacramento on Saturday.

Portland has no time to adjust. The Trail Blazers visit the Utah Stars on Saturday, Oct. 31, the first game of Morant's absence. Utah lost to Memphis 110-105 on Oct. 26.
