The Spurs beat the Suns 123-103 at Frost Bank Center on Wednesday. Yahoo Sports' recap says Luke Kennard left the game early with a knee injury. The feed summary gives no diagnosis, no timeline and no word on his availability, and none of the other three outlets mentions the injury. The box score shows Kennard played 14 minutes and went 2-for-8 with four points, two rebounds and two steals.
ESPN's report centers on San Antonio's lineup. Coach Mitch Johnson "finally deployed" a three-guard group of De'Aaron Fox, Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle, per ESPN. The box score shows how the three did. Fox had nine points on 3-of-5 shooting, including 2-of-2 from three, with four assists in 19 minutes. Harper scored nine on 4-of-11 with six rebounds in 23 minutes. Castle had 18 points on 2-of-5 shooting because he went 14-of-15 at the line. The sources don't say how many minutes the three shared the floor.
Sportsnet's account has Victor Wembanyama leading all scorers with 19 points, Castle at 18, and Carter Bryant hitting four three-pointers for 16 off the bench. The box score backs this up. Wembanyama shot 9-of-14 in 23 minutes and blocked four shots. Bryant was 4-of-7 from deep. Last season he averaged 0.7 made threes per game on 40.8% shooting overall, so four in one night is well above that. Wembanyama's 19 points came in fewer minutes than his 29.2 per game last season.
San Antonio's edge was largest in rebounding and free throws. The Spurs out-rebounded Phoenix 50-36 and went 30-of-35 at the line against 12-of-15 for the Suns. They shot 13-of-35 from three against 7-of-31 for Phoenix, and led by as many as 25. Phoenix had the edge in the paint, 64-48, and in fast-break points, 16-11. The Spurs also turned it over 21 times to the Suns' 15. Yahoo describes Phoenix as shorthanded. The box score shows 15 players used, including Ryan Dunn and Jamaree Bouyea with 15 points apiece, but the feeds don't say who was missing.
The result moves San Antonio to 1-3 and leaves Phoenix at 1-3. The Spurs had lost 119-109 at Utah on Monday, and before that 102-98 at Phoenix on Saturday, so this win avenges that loss. The Suns had won that game and also lost 124-117 at Chicago on Oct. 7.
San Antonio hosts Sacramento on Friday, Oct. 16. Phoenix hosts Utah the same day, and the first thing to watch there is whether Kennard's knee keeps him out.
