The Green Bay Packers beat the Dallas Cowboys 23-13 on Sunday night at Lambeau Field and moved to 4-2. It is their third straight win. Jordan Love threw a touchdown pass and scored on a 1-yard keeper, per ESPN and the Associated Press. ESPN called it a penalty-filled game in which Green Bay held Dallas' "high-powered offense in check." Yahoo Sports pointed to two turnovers and a strong pass rush. One outlier: Sportsnet's video recap gives the score as 23-14, while every other outlet and our box score have 23-13.
Matthew Golden was the main target. Sportsnet reported he caught six passes for 104 yards and a touchdown, and the box score agrees. He saw 13 targets, five more than anyone else on the team. Love finished 23-of-41 for 276 yards with one interception and was sacked three times. The offense was not efficient. Green Bay averaged 4.5 yards per play and 2.2 per rush, and ran for only 57 yards on 26 carries.
What Green Bay did well was stay on the field. ESPN credited "timely third-down conversions," and the Packers went 11-for-18 on third down against 5-for-13 for Dallas. That helped them hold the ball for 30:51. Trey Smack was 3-for-3 on field goals with a long of 44. Green Bay led 17-0 after two quarters, and the box score has Dallas scoring 7 in the third and 6 in the fourth.
Dak Prescott threw 54 passes, completing 34 for 258 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. That is 4.8 yards per attempt, well below the 7.2 he averaged through his first five games. Evan Williams and Brandon Cisse had the interceptions. CeeDee Lamb was targeted 18 times and caught nine for 70 yards. Ryan Flournoy caught Dallas' touchdown pass. The Cowboys also ran only 15 times for 48 yards. Both teams were flagged 11 times, Dallas for 108 yards and Green Bay for 96. The Packers sacked Prescott once.
Blogging The Boys was harsher than the game story. Its headline, also carried by Yahoo, called the loss "humiliating and humbling." Writer RJ Ochoa noted that Thursday marked 10 years since Dallas last beat Green Bay. We don't have more of that piece.
The Packers are third in the NFC North at 4-2. Minnesota is 5-0, and Chicago is also 4-2 and sits ahead of Green Bay in the table. The Packers' run differential is only +2, even with three straight wins, including 31-7 over the Bears and a 17-14 win at Tampa Bay. Dallas is 2-4 and has lost two in a row, a 24-16 home loss to Tampa Bay on Oct. 8 and now this one. The Cowboys are 1.5 games behind the Giants in the NFC East.
Green Bay visits Detroit on Sunday, Oct. 25. Dallas plays at Philadelphia on Monday, Oct. 26.
