Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will miss the rest of the 2026 season after doctors found multiple blood clots in his lungs, ESPN reported, citing NFL Network and its own reporting. Adam Schefter's report carried the same headline. Hurts' agent, Nicole Lynn, and the Eagles issued a joint statement on Monday describing the diagnosis. The excerpts we have cut off before the statement's details.

The reports differ on how definite the timeline is. NFL Trade Rumors, relaying Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, said Hurts is expected to miss about three months while he is treated for a blood clot issue. Tom Pelissero, as posted on r/nfl, said new imaging over the weekend found several clots and that Hurts is expected to be sidelined for multiple months. Pelissero called it "unlikely" he plays again this season and said Hurts is now on blood thinners and should have no long-term effects. So "out for season" is the wording of ESPN, Bleeding Green Nation and Sportsnet. The more cautious outlets frame it as roughly three months and unlikely to return.

Rapoport also added a detail, again via r/nfl: before the London game, Hurts was in the hospital until 4 am and did not sleep, because sleep was a risk. He played that game without having slept. That is only a Reddit summary of Rapoport's reporting. Our logs show Hurts' last appearance was Oct. 11 at Jacksonville, where he went 21 of 40 for 220 yards and a touchdown, was sacked once and fumbled twice without losing either. He has no entry in the 25-14 home loss to Carolina on Oct. 18.

Hurts played five games this season. He completed 89 of 154 passes (57.8%) for 933 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions, a passer rating of 84.7. He was sacked 13 times and added 107 rushing yards and a touchdown. His best game was the opener against Washington, with three touchdown passes and a 122.2 rating. In the Oct. 4 loss to the Rams he threw for just 93 yards and was sacked four times.

The Eagles are 2-4 and in second place in the NFC East, 1.5 games behind the 3-2 Giants. They have lost four straight, to Chicago, the Rams, Jacksonville and Carolina, and their run differential is minus-31. The Cowboys are also 2-4 and the Commanders are 1-3, so the division is still close even with Hurts out.

The Eagles host Dallas on Monday, Oct. 26. We don't yet have word on who will start in Hurts' place or whether the team will make a roster move. The joint statement and the follow-up reporting from the team should show how the Eagles plan to handle the quarterback position.
