The Bruins beat the Kings 4-1 in Los Angeles on Saturday night, their fifth win in a row. Marat Khusnutdinov scored in the third period, per the AP. David Pastrnak also scored, and Elias Lindholm and JJ Peterka added empty-netters. Jeremy Swayman made 25 saves. Sportsnet's highlight summary adds that Pastrnak had an assist as well as his goal.
Our box score shows Boston did not lead early. Los Angeles scored first, in the opening period, and Boston tied it in the second. The Bruins then scored three times in the third, two of those into an empty net. Swayman stopped 25 of 26 shots (.962), and Anton Forsberg stopped 24 of 26 at the other end. The game was close on shots, 28-26 to Boston. Neither side scored on the power play, and each had two chances. The Kings took 21 penalty minutes to Boston's 11, and Erik Haula had 10 of them.
Pastrnak now has 10 points in eight games this season (three goals, seven assists). Swayman has started all six of his appearances and is 5-1. Peterka has two goals and three assists in eight games. The Bruins are 7-2 and first in the Atlantic Division. Their win streak includes a 6-3 win at San Jose on Tuesday and a 4-2 win at Anaheim on Friday, so they won three straight games on this California trip.
The Kings are 0-4 and seventh in the Pacific. They have lost two straight, 3-1 to Edmonton on Tuesday and 2-1 at Vegas on October 10. Yahoo's commentary piece describes a team "six games without a win" and asks whether it needs a complete rebuild. Our records show four games played and four losses, so we can't confirm the six-game figure. That piece is opinion, and the rebuild question is the outlet's own framing. Nothing in the reporting we have says what the Kings plan to do.
Both teams play again on Tuesday, October 20. Boston goes to Dallas, looking for a sixth straight win. Los Angeles goes to Washington, still looking for its first win.
