Jalen Duren has committed to the Pistons after a prolonged restricted free agency process. The 22-year-old center signed a five-year, $200 million extension and spoke to media to reaffirm his long-term intentions with the team, per multiple outlets.
"I want to be a Detroit Piston for life," Duren said, according to reporting from CBS Sports and Yahoo Sports. ESPN reported that Duren said he is "relieved and excited" to return to Detroit despite the negotiations appearing to turn contentious at times. Yahoo Sports noted that Duren used his media availability to deny much of the reporting about him during the offseason and to clear up what he believed were misrepresentations of both his position and the team's.
CBS Sports reported that leaks of a fractured team-player relationship had emerged during the drawn-out free agency period before Duren eventually accepted the deal.
