The Red Sox activated right-hander Garrett Whitlock from the 15-day injured list Friday, per MLB Trade Rumors. Right-hander Wyatt Olds was optioned to Triple-A Worcester in the corresponding move. Left-hander Raymond Burgos was also called up from Triple-A as the 27th man for the doubleheader against the Yankees.

Whitlock's return bolsters Boston's bullpen. Over The Monster noted his 2.05 ERA and 0.89 WHIP across 44 innings this season, along with 49 strikeouts and seven walks. The outlet characterized his availability as beneficial for the Red Sox as they compete in the AL East.
