The Eagles had 24 players on their first injury report of Week 6, issued Wednesday ahead of Sunday's game against the Panthers. Pro Football Talk's Charean Williams, in a story Yahoo Sports carried, said DeVonta Smith and Saquon Barkley were listed as DNP, meaning they did not practice. The feed summaries we have don't give the injuries behind either designation. They also don't give a game status for any player, so none is reported here.
Bleeding Green Nation's Brandon Lee Gowton named Jalen Hurts among the 24 as well. His post is the only one in our reporting that does. Gowton also noted that not all 24 are on the 53-man roster, which he called "really a 52-man roster" because Lane Johnson counts against the limit. The excerpt cuts off there, so we can't say why Johnson counts or what his status is. The Pro Football Talk summary doesn't say what Hurts's listing means. Until the later practice reports or a team update, treat his designation as unknown.
Barkley's season gives the listing some weight. He has 36 carries for 182 yards, 5.1 a carry, across four games played, and our log shows no appearance in Sunday's 19-17 loss at Jacksonville. His last game was Oct. 4 against the Rams, where he had two carries for 8 yards. The archive's logs don't say why he missed the Jacksonville game, and none of the reporting links that absence to this report.
Hurts is the player the offense runs through. He has 933 passing yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions this season at 6.1 yards per attempt, and he has been sacked 13 times in five games. At Jacksonville he went 21-of-40 for 220 yards and a touchdown. The Rams game was his low point, 12-of-27 for 93 yards and four sacks. A thin skill group would add to the pressure on that passing game.
Philadelphia is 2-3, second in the NFC East, and has lost to the Bears 27-7, the Rams 24-20 and the Jaguars 19-17. Carolina is 2-2 and leads the NFC South. It has won 34-3 at Atlanta and 32-26 over Detroit, with a 21-18 loss at Cleveland in between.
The Panthers visit Philadelphia on Sunday, Oct. 18. Wednesday's report is only the first of the week. The Thursday and Friday reports will show whether Smith, Barkley and Hurts return to practice, and the Eagles' game-day designations will settle who plays.
