Yohandy Morales and Jared Simpson each made memorable major league debuts as the Washington Nationals beat the Atlanta Braves 9-5 on Tuesday night. Morales went 3-for-5 with a home run, per ESPN and Sportsnet. Deadspin reported he finished a triple short of the cycle in his debut.
Simpson earned the win in relief, throwing three scoreless innings in his own debut, according to ESPN. The Nationals' offensive output was distributed across multiple players. Brady House went 1-for-3 with a two-run double and three RBI, per Sportsnet, while CJ Abrams went 2-for-4 with a two-run single, also per Sportsnet.
The loss marked a frustrating night for the Braves, who were out-hit and unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Per Battery Power, the Braves have struggled this September to combine dominant pitching and offensive firepower over extended stretches, following a similarly frustrating loss to the Giants in late August.
